Not only is a new blog in the works, but a logo and some new, great pictures

I am very aware that I have not updated this blog with new things in over two weeks and I am sorry! The lack of posts is certainly not due to a lack of new pictures. I have at least four more sets of pictures to add eventually, including:

Allison & Rich’s Thanksgiving Adventure (they’re so darn cute)
The Seger Family

So yeah! I’m glad to get some more experience under my belt.

Here’s the thing: I am not posting more until I get my hands on Photoshop. I’ve been promised that if I don’t receive it for Christmas, I can buy it in the new year. I have severely outgrown iPhoto and my brain is just aching thinking about the potential these photos have with just a little Photoshop magic! So, until then, I just can’t bring myself to post more. I’m going to be a busy girl in January I can’t wait.

So there’s the explanation for the lack of posts. I promise your eyes will have a feast after New Year’s! I have not changed my mind about photography! Just ask Drew, it’s all I talk about.

Merry Christmas and Happy 2008!

Nikon School consists of 2 days of 7 hours talking about photography. A dream come true. I would highly recommend this workshop! Check it out here. The class demographic was mostly amateurs just looking to gain some knowledge. I met people who were point and shoot beginners to pros just looking to stay fresh.

Saturday’s class was a little more basic. It mostly focused on getting the shot in the camera, not a lot of editing. We talked about ISO, aperture, shutter speed, camera settings, that kind of thing. Sunday’s class I really enjoyed; the instructors talked about editing software, gave demos and showed us just plain cool stuff. I feel that I learned so, so much and am feeling a lot more confident about this new career.

Another bonus about the classes, I got to meet some great people! It was so fun to be in a room where everyone is there to talk about photography. Also, Nikon reps were there with equipment we were allowed to touch. I would proudly like to announce that I have not only held, but taken a picture with the brand spankin’ new D3. What a monster. Severe camera lust happening.

The class was well-worth the time and money spent, in my opinion. Feel free to ask me questions about it!

We had such a fun session in DC. It’s so hard for me to pick just a few favorites…so here’s a lot of my favorites (plus some fun outtakes that show what a fun couple they are)!

This photo does not do the sun or the Capitol justice. The sky was completely cloudy, except for a hole right about the Capitol! It created the coolest effect that was, of course, impossible to capture on camera.

My time with the Browns was a great learning experience and confidence builder! The frame idea (which is not completely original, I must admit) worked out great. Thanks Browns!

I am Andrea Ackermann and I want to be a photographer when I grow up. I do not consider myself yet grown.

I’m not sure what led to this extreme career change. I know that I have always loved photography and was the token “picture taker” with my point and shoot camera. Now that I have seriously upgraded cameras and have tasted professional photography, I know I am hooked. While my passion runs deep and the call of photography is irresistable to me, I am taking it one step at a time. Right now, I know I am not prepared to “officially” start a business; however, I know it’s something I am supposed to pursue, which is what I intend to do.

So here begins my journey. I am excited to head up a photography team at my church, to learn to shoot indoors and work with people. Next week, I am attending a weekend workshop held by Nikon. I am ready to be taught! I have done a couple of shoots already and I will be posting them on this blog very soon.

To end, I’d really like to thank some people, as cheesy as that is. First of all, Drew. My sweet, sweet husband has been so supportive of my dream, sacrificing other things so I can invest in photography. I know it’s expensive and I am so grateful. Also, Mrs. Jessica Alston, a REAL professional who has taken the time to give me advice. She’s living the dream. Please check her out here! I’m glad to learn from you.
